William J. "Bill" Brown

William J. "Bill" Brown, of Oak Island, NC, beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend, died October 9, 2023, at his home at age 75. Bill leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness and unwavering determination that touched the lives of many.

Born April 13, 1948, in Malone NY, his small-town values inspired a strong work ethic and a deep appreciation of family. He embraced every opportunity to bring joy and laughter to those around him and his smile and warm personality made him a treasured presence in the lives of his loved ones.

Bill's professional journey was characterized by his dedication and passion that overflowed into his creative abilities. His building projects and master craftsmanship led him to be known as "the guy who can fix anything."

Family was at the center of Bill's heart, he cherished every moment he spent with his children and grandchildren. He was a pillar of strength offering unwavering support and love to his family throughout his life.

Bill loved the written word and enjoyed his daily newspapers as well as books of which he had amassed an impressive library with an emphasis on history. After his retirement from Malone Central School District in 2007, he pursued a life of worldwide travel and adventure. From hunting and fishing in the Adirondacks to drinking champagne at the top of the Eiffel Tower, he embraced every moment and started couldn't wait to plan the next.

Bill leaves behind a profound lasting impact on all who had the privilege of knowing him. His memory will forever be cherished in the hearts of his family, friends and community. His spirit will live on and remind us to embrace life, pursue our passions and above all love one another.

He was the son of Harold F. and Gladys (Tobey) Brown. On June 19, 1971, he was married to Ann "Dee" Brown. Surviving besides his wife are a daughter, Michelle Babbie of Malone NY; a son, Jeffery and his wife Jessica of Edgewater MD; three grandchildren Cassandra Nemschick and husband, Michael, of Long Island, Justin Babbie of Oak Island, and Lila Brown; two cousins, Elly Pensgen of Fairport, NY, and Stephen Tobey of Phelps, NY. Also surving are four sisters-in-law Lorelei Herne, Elaine Smith, Rowena (Warren) Mitchell, Leesa (Patrick) Latulipe; four brothers-in-law John (Adeline) Herne, Eric Herne, Gregory Herne and Leland Herne; several neices and nephews, and a chosen nephew Vincent Giordano.

Besides his parents he was predeceased by his aunts and uncles, Donald and Thelma Cooper and Kenneth and Dorothy Tobey.

A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
