Obituary
William (Bill) Lawrence Wissinger, of St. James, passed away suddenly on Friday, April 13, 2018. He was born in Latrobe, PA on October 17, 1943, to Lorraine and William Wissinger.
Bill and his wife, Rita, married 42 years, retired to St. James in 2005. In his "former life" after receiving his PhD from NC State University, and post-doctoral work at University of Missouri, Columbia, Bill worked as a cell biologist, cancer and AIDS researcher and toxicologist. As a result of his strong work ethic, integrity and attention to detail in his numerous research positions, Bill was published in many distinguished scientific journals.
Bill is survived by his wife, Rita; sister, Suzanne Brewer of Atlanta, GA; brother, Ray Wissinger and wife, Lori of Houston, TX; ten nieces and nephews and six grand nieces and nephews.
Bill was involved with the monthly set up of the St. James Croquet Club and for many years held a leadership role in the Pine Straw Fundraiser for the St. James Volunteer Fire Department.
Graveside Services will be held in Winston-Salem, NC and a celebration of Bill's life will be held in St. James at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. James Volunteer Fire Department.
